What a night in a bubble is actually like

The bubble is a fully transparent tent in a clearing in the forest in Zuidoostbeemster, about 20 minutes from Amsterdam. Nothing sits between you and the outside: no wall cutting off the view, no ceiling above the bed. Once it gets dark the lights come on and the world shrinks back to the dome.

Nothing else stands here. No second place further along, no through road, nobody walking past. What is left of the sound at night is birds and wind.

The bubble sleeps two. You check in contactlessly, with a code you receive before you arrive. From then on the forest is yours.

Six parts that together make up the stay.

    The bed sits under the dome, so from your pillow you look straight up. By day that is the treetops, after sunset the stars. What wakes you is the birds.

    You shower under a roof of glass. It is an ordinary hot shower, just without a ceiling between you and the sky.

    A wooden tub outside that runs on wood. The firewood is laid out and included. Further down this page you can read how the heating works.

    Under a wooden roof there is a stove, with pans and everything else within reach. The barbecue stands separately beside it, and the gas is included.

    There is one bubble and nobody else: no neighbours behind a hedge, no second tent further along among the trees. Two sheep, though, going about their own business.

    Warmth for cold nights

    There are heaters in the bubble and electrically heated blankets on hand. Guests have slept comfortably here with -7 °C outside. Packing warm clothes is still a good idea.

All year round

The bubble, season by season

The bubble is open all year. Every season feels different.

  • Winter

    Guests sleep comfortably here even when it is freezing outside. Three radiator panels sit around the bed, there are electric blankets, and you get a hot water bottle. Away from the bed it can be colder, and that is part of it: you are sleeping in a tent in the forest. Slippers, socks and hats are laid out; warm clothes you bring yourself.

  • Spring

    The forest comes into leaf again. This is the season of early light and a great many birds, and the sheep pick their way between the trees.

  • Summer

    Thanks to the constant airflow and the shade of the trees, guests sleep here even after a day above 35 degrees. During the day it gets warmer inside the tent, but that is not where you want to be anyway: that is the moment to cool off in the hot tub. In the evening the temperature drops and you sleep comfortably.

  • Rain and autumn

    The bubble is fully weatherproof and heated. Rain on the roof just above you is more a reason to stay in bed than to take shelter. In a storm we do ask you to get in touch first.

Before you book

What else you should know

  • The bubble is for two people.
  • Check-in from 3pm, check-out until 11am.
  • Check-in is completely contactless. You receive all the instructions and an access code before you arrive.
  • There is no minimum stay. One night is fine.
  • There are power sockets, lighting and places to charge.
  • There is deliberately no wifi. The mobile signal is strong enough to stream and to call.
  • Pets are not allowed, because of the other animals on the grounds.
  • You park free of charge on the grounds themselves.
  • A marriage proposal works here. You can add a romantic arrangement with decoration, champagne and extras.
